わたしが大好きなクリスマスのお話です。

アフリカで働いていたキリスト教の宣教師に、ひとりの少年が特別なクリスマスプレゼントを贈りました。それは美しく珍しい貝殻でした。少年はこの貝殻を手に入れるために、気が遠くなるような長い道のりを歩いて往復しました。プレゼントを受け取った宣教師は感激して少年にお礼を言いました。「このプレゼントのために、ずいぶん遠くまで行ってくれたんだね。」少年は答えて言いました。

「あのね、ずうっと歩いたこともプレゼントの一部なんだよ。」

わたしはこの物語を読むたびに胸が熱くなります。「プレゼント」とは、確かに贈り物そのものだけでなく、そこに込められた気持ちや、それを準備するために費やした時間や労力すべてを含めたものです。世界中の人たちがクリスマスをお祝いするこの季節に、私は心からイエス様に感謝をささげたいです。

「わたしたちを罪から救うために、『ずうっと遠くから』わたしたちのところに来てくださって本当にありがとうございます！」と。

 キリストは、神の身分でありながら、神と等しい者であることに固執しようとは思わず、かえって自分を無にして、僕の身分になり、人間と同じ者になられました。人間の姿で現れ、へりくだって、死に至るまで、それも十字架の死に至るまで従順でした。

This is my favorite Christmas story.

A boy sent a special Christmas gift to a Christian missionary who worked in Africa. It was a beautifully rare shell. The boy walked a very long way for this gift. The missionary who received the gift thankfully said to the boy. “For this gift, you gone far far away, Thank you very much!” the boy replied and said.

“Pastor, walking a long distance is part of my gift.”

When reading this story, my heart was moved. “Gifts” are certainly not only the gifts themselves, but also including the feelings put in them and all the time and effort spent preparing them. I sincerely wish to offer thanks to Jesus during this season when people all over the world celebrate Christmas.

“Jesus, thank you so much for coming to us a long way to save us from sin!”

Who, being in very nature God,
did not consider equality with God something to be used to his own advantage;
rather, he made himself nothing
by taking the very nature of a servant,
being made in human likeness.
And being found in appearance as a man,
he humbled himself
by becoming obedient to death—
even death on a cross! (Philippians 2:6-8 NIV)

フィリピンでの17日間の研修を終えて無事に帰国しました。素晴らしい出会いや学びがたくさん与えられたことを神様に感謝しています。

ある晩ルームメートと語り合っていたときのことです。私は彼に尋ねました。「何歳のころ『牧師になりたい』って思ったの？」彼はすぐに答えました。「まだ子どもの頃から『牧師になりたい』って思ってたよ。ぼくが幼い頃から祖母がいつも『あなたは将来牧師になるのよ』と励まし、いつもそのために祈ってくれていたから、自然に『将来牧師になりたい』と思うようになったんだ」と。彼が牧師になる前に彼の祖母は亡くなったそうです。彼はそのことを残念に思っているようでした。しかし、今彼が牧師として働いていることそのものが、彼の祖母の祈りの答えであり、彼女は亡くなった今もその祈りによって彼を支えているように感じました。

金曜夜のプログラムで、ネパールで宣教師として働いている牧師の話を聞きました。彼は組織や人の助けに頼らず、ただ神様の約束にすがってネパールでの伝道の働きを始めました。ネパールはヒンズー教徒の多い国です。そのような国でキリスト教を伝えるのは多くの困難が伴います。しかし彼は困難に直面するたびに神様に真剣な祈りをささげ、その都度神様がその祈りに応えて道を開かれたという体験談を聞いて、心を打たれました。

主は世界中至るところを見渡され、御自分と心を一つにする者を力づけようとしておられる。（旧約聖書　歴代誌下16：9　新共同訳）

“No prayer, No power.”（祈りなしには力なし）今回の研修で学んだ言葉の一つです。そのことを私たちは頭では分かっています。しかし、自分はどれほど真剣に神様からの力を求めて祈ってきただろうかと、これまでの自分の祈りの貧しさを恥じる思いにさせられました。神様は私たちを、ひたむきな祈りの経験へと招いておられます。あなたはそれにどのように応じるでしょうか。

I returned from the Philippines that was CLAP program. It was so blessed. God gave us many meaningful lessons, encounter, and beautiful memories. I really appreciate with God because of them.

One night, I was talking with my roommate. I asked him. “When did you come to have the idea of becoming a pastor in the future?”

“When I was childhood, my grandmother always encouraged me to become a pastor, and she kept praying for me, I began to feel like wanting to be a pastor. “He replied.

His grandmother passed away before he became a pastor. He is sorry for that. But I felt that her prayers showed him a way and made him a pastor. His grandmother passed away, but her prayers guided him.

We heard the story of a pastor who is working as a missionary in Nepal with a vesper on Friday night. He did not rely on the help of organizations and people, but instead went to just only focus on God’s promise and began working on evangelism in Nepal. Nepal is a country with many Hindus. Missionary Christianity in such a country is accompanied by a lot of difficulties. But whenever he encountered difficulty, he gave a sincere prayer to God, and he heard a story of God’s experiences that God made the way in response to that prayer each time.

 For the eyes of the Lord range throughout the earth to strengthen those whose hearts are fully committed to him (Chronicles 16:9 NIV).

“No prayer, No power”. It is one of words that I have learned by this session. I know this word is truth. But I was realized that I didn’t pray for God with sincere prayer in my Christian life. God is inviting us to a sincere prayer experience. How would you respond to it?

フィリピンでの研修も2週目になりました。今週、「多様性の中の一致」というクラスを受けました。私たちが住むこの地球には様々な国家、民族、言語があり、それらの中には多様な文化があります。文化の違いは時として誤解を生むことがあります。しかし、謙虚さとお互いに対する敬意を持って理解し合おうとするとき、私たちの視点は拡げられ、理解を深め合うことが出来るのです。

先週末は、近くのAIIAS（アドベンチスト大学院）の安息日礼拝に出席し、日曜の夜には各国の文化を紹介し合うプログラムに参加しました。現在、AIIASでは18カ国から教授たち、そして80カ国から学生たちが集い、学んでいるそうです。世界中の様々な場所から来た人たちと共に神様を礼拝し、お互いの文化を分かち合ったとき、「天国ってこういう場所なのかな？」と感じました。

神は、一人の人からすべての民族を造り出して、地上の至るところに住まわせ、季節を決め、彼らの居住地の境界をお決めになりました。これは、人に神を求めさせるためであり、また、彼らが探し求めさえすれば、神を見いだすことができるようにということなのです。実際、神はわたしたち一人一人から遠く離れてはおられません。（新約聖書　使徒言行録17：26，27　新共同訳）

私は外国の信仰の兄弟姉妹たちと交わるとき、この聖書の言葉を思い出します。確かに、言語や文化の違いは時として私たちのコミュニケーションの支障となります。しかし、私たちはそれらの違いを超えて、互いに心を通わせ合うことが出来ると聖書は約束しています。

United in Diversity 

Training program in Philippines has been on the second week. We took a lecture “United in Diversity” this week. It was really interesting. There are various countries, ethnicities and languages in our world. They often make misunderstandings. However, when we try to understand each other with humility, respect, and patience, our perspective will expand and we will understand each other. 

We participated Sabbath worship, and Cultural Night in AIIAS last weekend. Currently, it seems that faculty members come from 18 different countries, and students come from 80 countries learn at AIIAS. When we worshiped God and shared the cultures of each other with people from various places all over the world, I felt “Is heaven such an atmosphere?” 

From one man he made all the nations, that they should inhabit the whole earth; and he marked out their appointed times in history and the boundaries of their lands. God did this so that they would seek him and perhaps reach out for him and find him, though he is not far from any one of us(Acts 17:26,27 NIV).  

I remember this Scripture when I meet brethren in various countries. Certainly, language and cultural differences sometimes interfere with our communication. However, the Bible promises that we can communicate and understand each other beyond these differences.

孤独は、つらいものです。私たちはときどき、人の中にいることに疲れて、「独りになりたい」と感じることがありますが、しかし人は一人で生きることは出来ません。今週受けた研修で、興味深い調査結果が紹介されていました。

【だれが孤独を感じているか？】

• 高所得者の13％　低所得者の27％
• 70代以上の6％　50～70代の13％　30～50代の24％　30代までの25％
• 女性の15％　男性の22％

この調査によれば、若者は孤独と無縁ということは決してなく、むしろ若い世代の人たちのほうが孤独を感じるパーセンテージが高くなっています。

ルカによる福音書15章に3つのたとえ話が書かれています。それは一匹の羊を探しつづけた羊飼い、一枚の銀貨を探しつづけた女、そして家を飛び出して行った息子を待ち続けていた父親のたとえ話です。それらはいずれもイエス様が失われた「一つ」を大切に取り扱われたことを教えています。

人は、一人ぼっちの砂漠で孤独を感じるだけでなく、人ごみの中でも孤独を感じます。むしろ、たくさんの人に囲まれていながら、誰からも覚えられず、必要とされていないと感じることのほうが辛いことです。

イエス様は御自身がこの世界に来られた理由を「人の子は、失われたものを捜して救うために来たのである」（新約聖書　ルカによる福音書19：10）と言われました。

今回の研修中、ひどい頭痛に苛まれて部屋で休んでいたことがありました。そんなとき、クラスメートたちが私の部屋に来てくれて、一緒に祈ってくれました。彼らのあたたかさによって、心や体の痛みが和らげられるのを感じました。「自分は孤独ではない」と感じました。誰かが苦しんでいるとき、私もそのように出来る人でありたいと願っています。

For the Son of Man came to seek and to save the lost.

Feeling loneliness is painful. Sometimes we are tired of relationships and feel that I want to be alone, but I can not live alone. Interesting survey results were introduced in the class this week.

“Who are lonely?”

Upscale : 13% Downscale : 27%

Elders : 6% Boomers :13% Gen-Xers : 24%  Millennials : 25%

Women : 15% Men : 22%

According to this survey, young people have a higher percentage of loneliness than elderly people.

Three parable stories are written in the book of Luke 15. There are “The Parable of the Lost Sheep”, “The Parable of the Lost Coin”, and “The Parable of the Lost Son”. All of them teach that Jesus cherished “one” that was lost.

I feel lonely when I am alone. For example, as when I am alone in the desert without anyone. However, I feel lonely even in the crowd. That is the time when I feel that no one needs me, no one remembers me.

Jesus talked about the reason why he came to this world.

For the Son of Man came to seek and to save the lost(Luke 19:10 NIV).

I have been in the Philippines this week for my study of English. I feel headache and I was asleep in my room. At that time my classmates gathered for me and prayed. I felt my heart and body healed by their kindness. I was able to feel that “I am not lonely”. When someone is suffering, I want to support him or her. Like they did for me.

これは、一般的には「物事に慣れてくると、慢心してしまいがちであるが、はじめたときの新鮮で謙虚な気持ち、志を忘れてはいけない」という意味で使われることの多い言葉です。

ちなみに、この言葉を最初に語った世阿弥は、「芸が未熟だったころ、初心者だったころのみじめな気持ちを忘れないでいれば、『あのみじめな状態に逆戻りしたくない』という気持ちで稽古に精進出来る」という意味でこの言葉を残したそうです。「初心」という状態をどのような視点で見るのかによって、言葉の意味合いが変わって来るのは興味深いですね。

さて、11月12日から29日まで、3回目の英語の研修のためフィリピンに行ってきます。第一回目の研修に参加してからちょうど1年、これが3回目の研修になります。あれからどれくらい英語力がついたのか分かりませんが、この両方の意味の「初心、忘るべからず」を肝に命じつつ学んでこようと思います。

しかし、あなたに言うべきことがある。あなたは初めのころの愛から離れてしまった。だから、どこから落ちたかを思い出し、悔い改めて初めのころの行いに立ち戻れ。

初心を忘れるな、と聖書も言います。あなたはどこで落ちてしまったのか？振り返りなさい、そして初めのころのあなたに戻りなさい。あなたの原点に立ち返りなさい、と呼びかけているのです。私たちには、定期的に自分の原点を振り返る作業が必要です。神様に立ち返ることが私たちの原点です。なぜなら、私たちは神様によって造られたからです。

Shoshin wasuru bekarazu  “Don’t forget your first resolution.”

This is a Japanese saying that is often used in the sense that it means “When you get accustomed to things, you tend to be conscious, but do not forget the fresh, humble feelings, will when you start” .

But Zeami who wrote this word says, “Do not forget the misery when you started learning. If you remember it, you will continue to effort and you do not want to go back to that time.”

“Shoshin” means the starting point. That means the place where you started something, when.

At that time, we had a humble heart. And at that time we were miserable because we could not do it well.

I’m going to Philippines for my English training from November 12 to 29. This is the third training I will attend. It started just a year ago. One year has passed, I do not know how much my English has grown. I hope that is growing. This is an important word for me. “Don’t forget your first resolution.”

Yet I hold this against you: You have forsaken the love you had at first. Consider how far you have fallen! Repent and do the things you did at first. (Revelation 2:4,5 NIV)

Bible also teach us, “Repent and do the things you did at first.” Go back to your starting point. Remember that. Our origin is in God. Because we were made by God. We should remember that God is our starting point.
