人が教会に行くきっかけは様々です。人生の中で起きる様々な問題に苦しみ、その答えを探して求めて自分の力で教会にたどり着いた、という方もおられるでしょう。しかし、ある調査によれば、「人を通して」教会に来るようになったという人のほうが圧倒的に多いそうです。

新約聖書の例を見てみましょう。

サマリヤの町の人々は、井戸のそばにいた一人の女性の「さあ、見に来てください…もしかしたら、この方がメシアかもしれません」（新約聖書　ヨハネによる福音書4：29　新共同訳）という言葉によって、イエス様のもとに行きました。

アンデレがイエス様と出会ったきっかけについて、同じヨハネによる福音書1：40には「ヨハネの言葉を聞いて、イエスに従った二人のうちの一人は、シモン・ペトロの兄弟アンデレであった」と書かれています。

徴税人マタイはイエス様の弟子になったとき、自分の徴税人仲間たちをイエス様に紹介するために、自宅で食事会を催しました（マタイによる福音書9章）。

聖書の登場人物たちも、そして今日の私たちも、誰かが伝えてくれたおかげでイエス様と出会うことが出来たのです。それと同じように、私たちも誰かにイエス様を紹介したいものですね。

八王子教会では10月29日から、秋の講演会が持たれます。誰かにイエス様をお伝えするために、あなたの力が必要とされています。

The reason for the first visit to church depends on that person. The reasons are various. Someone struggled in many troubles. He reached the church by himself from the struggle. However, according to a research, there are more people who arrived at the church through a person.

Let’s see some examples of the New Testament.

People in the town of Samaria met Jesus through the invitation of a woman who was near the well. She said,

“Come, see a man who told me everything I ever did. Could this be the Messiah?” (John 4:29 NIV)

Andrew was led to Jesus by the words of John(John 1:40).

The tax collector Matthew became a disciple of Jesus. When he became a disciple, he invited his friends to his house. It was to introduce Jesus to them(Matthew 9:10).

Characters of the Bible and also we were able to meet Jesus because someone told. In the same way, we would like to introduce Jesus to someone.

From October 29, an evangelistic meeting will be held at Hachioji Church. You are needed to tell someone Jesus.

今週、私たちの教会では葬儀がありました。亡くなった方は教会員ではありませんでしたが、不思議な神様のお導きによって、教会で葬儀をさせていただくことになりました。

2日間の葬儀の中で聖歌472番「人生の海の嵐に」を何回か歌いました。この曲の歌詞は、次の詩編の言葉をもとに作られています。

苦難の中から主に助けを求めて叫ぶと／主は彼らを苦しみから導き出された。

主は嵐に働きかけて沈黙させられたので／波はおさまった。

彼らは波が静まったので喜び祝い／望みの港に導かれて行った。

（旧約聖書　詩編107：28～30　新共同訳）

私たちには「人生の海の嵐」と呼ぶべき出来事がしばしば起きます。人間関係や仕事のトラブル、自分自身や家族の病気、その他不可抗力の出来事など…。しかし、それらの「嵐」の中から神に助けを求めるとき、神は嵐をしずめ、私たちを「望みの港」へと導いてくださる、と約束されています。

葬儀の中で、ご家族・親族の皆さんから故人の思い出を聞かせていただきました。笑いあり、涙ありの心温まるひとときでした。「人生の海の嵐」を生き抜いた故人が、確かに「望みの港」へたどり着いたのだと感じることが出来ました。

イエス様が再びおいでになる日に、愛する人たちが共に再会できる日を、心から待ち望んでいます。

There was a funeral this week at our church. The deceased was not a member of the church, but by the guidance of God it was able to have a funeral at the church. Through a two-day funeral, we sang hymns “The Haven of rest” several times. This hymn is based on the words of this Psalm.

Then they cried out to the Lord in their trouble,
and he brought them out of their distress.
He stilled the storm to a whisper;
the waves of the sea were hushed.
They were glad when it grew calm,
and he guided them to their desired haven.(Psalm 107:28-30 NIV)

In our life, there are days like “sea of storm”. But when we seek God for help from those storms, God will respond to it. God stops that storm. And God will lead us to ‘desired haven’. That is a promise from God to us.

During the funeral, family and relatives shared memories with the deceased. When we heard those stories, we laughed. And we wept. It was a very heart-warming time. He experienced many sufferings. However, he did not stop helping others. I felt that he reached “desired haven”.

The day of second coming of Christ is approaching. I hope that people meet again and meet with Jesus that day.

私の家の隣りにある、八王子教会は小高い丘の上に建っています。教会の塔の上にある十字架は、夜になると白く光り、離れた場所からもそこに教会があることが分かります。しばらく前のことですが、ご近所の方から「最近、十字架の光が弱くなっていませんか？」と言われたことがありました。これはドキッとさせられる指摘でした。次の聖書の言葉が思い出されました。

「ともし火をともして、それを穴蔵の中や、升の下に置く者はいない。入って来る人に光が見えるように、燭台の上に置く。あなたの体のともし火は目である。目が澄んでいれば、あなたの全身が明るいが、濁っていれば、体も暗い。だから、あなたの中にある光が消えていないか調べなさい。あなたの全身が明るく、少しも暗いところがなければ、ちょうど、ともし火がその輝きであなたを照らすときのように、全身は輝いている。」

（新約聖書　ルカによる福音書11：33～36　新共同訳）

聖書には「光」という言葉が度々出てきます。光は、イエス・キリストご自身を表し、またある箇

所では私たち信仰者を指します。この箇所でイエス様は「あなたの中にある光が消えていないか調べなさい」と言われました。光は一度灯したらいつまでも同じ輝度で光り続ける訳ではありません。自分でも気づかないうちにその輝きが失われることがあるのです。私たちの信仰者としての「光」は、どうでしょうか？

今週、教会の十字架の照明を新しくしました。十字架は元

通りの輝きを取り戻しました。照明は取り換えれば輝きを取り戻しますが、私たち信仰者の「光」は、光の源であるイエス様につながることなしには輝くことがありません。あなたの中にある光は、いまどんな状態でしょうか？

Hachioji church is located on the hill. The cross on the tower glows at night. It can be seen from afar. However, one day a neighbor told me, “The light of the cross of the church is declining.” I was surprised to hear it. Sure it was right. I remembered the words of this Bible.

“No one lights a lamp and puts it in a place where it will be hidden, or under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, so that those who come in may see the light. Your eye is the lamp of your body. When your eyes are healthy, your whole body also is full of light. But when they are unhealthy, your body also is full of darkness. See to it, then, that the light within you is not darkness. Therefore, if your whole body is full of light, and no part of it dark, it will be just as full of light as when a lamp shines its light on you.”(Luke 11:33-36 NIV)

In the Bible “light” is often mentioned. In one place, light means Christ. Also in some places light means Christian. Jesus said, “See to it, then, that the light within you is not darkness. ” Light is not always an equal shine. We may not realize ourselves that it is getting weaker. How about “light” as our Christian?

In the cross of the church the lights were exchanged this week.

The light of cross has recovered. If the light is new, it glows. But “light” as our Christian is not so. We will not be able to shine unless it connecting to Jesus, the source of light.

How about “light” as your Christian?

時間が過ぎるのは早いもので、広島三育中学校から帰ってきて1週間が過ぎようとしています。広島に向かう日が近づいてきた頃、日増しに強まるプレッシャーに押しつぶされそうになりながら「神様、私を力づける約束の言葉を与えて下さい！」と必死に祈りました。その朝、与えられた聖句は次の箇所でした。

彼らはまた言った、「さあ、町と塔とを建てて、その頂を天に届かせよう。そしてわれわれは名を上げて、全地のおもてに散るのを免れよう」。

（旧約聖書　創世記11：4　口語訳）

「神様、もっと心が奮い立たされるような言葉をお願いします」そんな気持ちでこの箇所を読みました。しかし何度か繰り返し読んでいるうちにドキッとさせられました。自分の心の奥にこの「名を上げよう」（新共同訳聖書では「有名になろう」）という自己顕示欲があることに気づかされたからです。「自分を高めたい」「高い評価を得たい」という思いは、過度のプレッシャーを生み、自分自身を苦しめます。そして私たちクリスチャンの働きを、神中心ではなく、自己中心的なものにしてしまいます。この日与えられた聖書のこの言葉によって、自分の心の中に「バベルの塔」があることに気づかされました。

この聖句を紙に書き、中学生の前に立つたびに何度も読み返しました。そして「神様、私の心から『バベルの塔』を取り除いてください！」と祈りました。

私たちの心の中には常に戦いがあります。最も強い敵は自分自身の中にいるのです。しかし神様はそんな私たちの心を、私自身以上に良く知っていてくださり、折にかなって必要な言葉を与えてくださいます。

いつも私の心のまん中にバベルの塔ではなく、イエス様の十字架がありますように。

“Tower of Babel” in my heart

I visited Hiroshima Saniku Gakuin junior high school last week. Before I visited there, my heart was uneasy. I felt strong pressure. I prayed to God. “Please give me the words to encourage me.”

God gave me this Scripture.

Then they said, “Come, let us build ourselves a city, with a tower that reaches to the heavens, so that we may make a name for ourselves; otherwise we will be scattered over the face of the whole earth.”(Genesis 11:4 NIV)

I could not be encouraged by reading this Scripture. However, when I read it repeatedly, I noticed it. In my mind that there is a “Tower of Babel”.

I have a self-assertive mind.  It often plagues me. It makes our hearts self-centered, not God-centered. This scripture made me realize that I have “Tower of Babel”. I wrote this verse on paper and carried it around. I read it before preaching. I prayed to God, “Please break my” Tower of Babel “in my heart!”

There is a great fight in our hearts. My greatest enemy is in me. However, God is our supporter and sympathizer always.

I hope that there is always a cross of Christ instead of “Tower of Babel” in my heart.

今週一週間、祈祷週のため広島三育学院に滞在しています。朝夕共に礼拝をし、また面接をしたり、一緒に食事をしたり、中学生たちと交わる機会がたくさんありました。生徒たちは様々な悩みや不安を抱えながらも一生懸命に前を向いて生きようとしています。そんな彼らの姿はとても美しく、キラキラと輝いて見えました。

モーセが神様から十戒の石の板を受け取ったときの様子が、次のように書かれています。

モーセは、山から下ったとき、自分が神と語っている間に、自分の顔の肌が光を放っているのを知らなかった。アロンとイスラエルの人々がすべてモーセを見ると、なんと、彼の顔の肌は光を放っていた。（旧約聖書　出エジプト記34：29，30　新共同訳）

モーセがシナイ山で神様と一緒に過ごしたとき、彼の顔は神様の光を反映して輝いていましたが、彼自身はそのことに気づいていませんでした。私が今週出会った生徒たちも、悩みや葛藤を抱えて神様に向き合っている中で、自分自身が輝いていることにおそらくは気づいてはいないのではないかと思います。神様は私たちに「悩みの日にわたしを呼べ、わたしはあなたを助け、あなたはわたしをあがめるであろう」（旧約聖書　詩篇50：15　口語訳）と言われました。悩みの中にあってそこから神様に呼ばわり向き合おうとする姿は尊いものです。そんな彼らが、悩みを突き抜けて力強く成長してゆくことを願い、祈り続けたいと思っています。

He was not aware that his face was radiant

I am staying at Hiroshima Saniku Gakuin for week of prayer this week. We worshiped together every morning and evening. And I talked with them personally. I was given the opportunity to hear their story. They have many troubles. However, they are trying to live positive. It seems to me that they are shining.

 When Moses came down from Mount Sinai with the two tablets of the covenant law in his hands, he was not aware that his face was radiant because he had spoken with the Lord. When Aaron and all the Israelites saw Moses, his face was radiant, and they were afraid to come near him. (Exodus 34:29,30 NIV)

When Moses spent with God in Mount Sinai, his face was shining. But he did not notice it. The students I met this week also shine like Moses. Probably they have not noticed that.

God said us,

” and call on me in the day of trouble;
I will deliver you, and you will honor me.”(Psalm 50:15 NIV)

Despite they have troubles, the attitude of seeking God is beautiful. I hope they will overcome those difficulties. They will reveal the glory of God.
