先日、ある大学の模擬講義に出席する機会がありました。30年以上小学校の教師をしてきた大学教授による講義で、実験を交えながらどのようにして子どもたちに自然界の出来事について関心を引き起こしながら理科を教えていくか、という内容のものでした。大変分かりやすく、また興味深い内容の講義だったのですがその中で先生がこんな話をされたのが特に心に残りました。

授業中子どもたちに発言を求めると、なかなか手が上がらないことがあります。子どもたちの心の中に「自分は答えを知っている」「発言したい」という思いがあっても、「間違ったら恥ずかしい」「失敗したら先生に怒られる」などの恐れの感情ゆえに挙手や発言が出来なくなってしまうのです。教師は子どもたちのそのような恐れを取り除き、自信を持ってチャンレンジできるように彼らの可能性を引き出す努力をする必要があるのです。

聖書には次のように書かれています。

愛には恐れがない。完全な愛は恐れをとり除く。恐れには懲らしめが伴い、かつ恐れる者には、愛が全うされていないからである。

（新約聖書　ヨハネの手紙第一　4：18　口語訳）

イエス・キリストは私たちの素晴らしい教師です。十字架によって示された完全な愛により、私たちの心から恐れを取り除こうとしてくださっているのです。私の心の中にも様々な恐れがあります。私はその恐れを、キリストによって完全にぬぐい去っていただきたいです。

“Perfect love drives out fear.”

I attended a lecture of a university the other day. It was a science lecture. The instructor was a university professor. He is a person who has been teaching elementary school for thirty years. Through the lecture, he made us think about “how to teach science intriguingly for children”. That was a very interesting lecture. The words he said in that were very impressive.

He said,

Children often hesitate to talk when teachers try to make their children express their opinions during class. Because they have fear in their hearts.

“If I make a mistake, the teacher may get angry.”

“If I make a mistake I am ashamed.”

If they have fear, they will not be able to speak even if they have their own opinion.

Removing fear from the hearts of children is an important role for teachers. If teachers can so, the teachers will be able to increase the potentials of the children.

There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear, because fear has to do with punishment. The one who fears is not made perfect in love.

(1 John 4:18 NIV)

Jesus is our wonderful teacher. He will remove fear from our hearts through perfect love that is shown by the Cross. There is also fear in my heart. I want my fear of heart to be completely removed by Jesus Christ.

朝早くまだ暗いうちに、イエスは起きて、人里離れた所へ出て行き、そこで祈っておられた。シモンとその仲間はイエスの後を追い、見つけると、「みんなが捜しています」と言った。イエスは言われた。「近くのほかの町や村へ行こう。そこでも、わたしは宣教する。そのためにわたしは出て来たのである。」

（新約聖書　マルコによる福音書1：35～38　新共同訳）

ここに「出る」という言葉が2回使われています。「人里離れた所へ出て行き」（35節）と、「そのためにわたしは出て来たのである」（38節）です。同じ「出る」でもこの2つの言葉はそれぞれ向きが違います。その違いを「世から出る」と「世に出る」と言い換えることが出来るかもしれません。

コデイロ牧師は「独りになること」と「孤立すること」の違いについて次のように書いています。

（それらは）一見よく似ていますし、共通するところも多いですが、この2つは全く違うものです。独りになることは魂の回復のために自ら選び取るものであり、それに対して孤立することは独りになる時間を十分に取らないでいたために外界との関わりを断絶せずにはいられなくなるものです。（ウェイン・コデイロ『あなたが燃え尽きてしまう前に』86ページ）

昨年から参加しているCLAPのプログラムで、毎朝「T.A.G」(Time alone with God)という時間があります。これは「一人で神と過ごす時間」です。私たちが忙しい日常に出て行くために、まず「一人で神と過ごす時間」に出て行くことを大切にしたいものです。

“That is why I have come”

Very early in the morning, while it was still dark, Jesus got up, left the house and went off to a solitary place, where he prayed. Simon and his companions went to look for him, and when they found him, they exclaimed: “Everyone is looking for you!” Jesus replied, “Let us go somewhere else—to the nearby villages—so I can preach there also. That is why I have come.

(Mark 1:35-38 NIV)

In the Japanese Bible, the word “go out” is used twice here. “went off to a solitary place”(:35) and “That is why I have come.”(:38) The first word means “go out in a solitary place” and the next word means “to leave the solitary place”.

Pastor Wayne Cordeiro mentions in his book about difference between “Solitude” and “Isolation”.

Solitude is a chosen separation for refining your soul. Isolation is what you crave when you neglect the first.”

In the CLAP program where I participate, we have time called “T.A.G” every morning. It’s time alone with God. We need to have time with God before going out to the busy daily lives.

「聖書は過去の書物である」と言われることがあります。確かに、聖書の最も古い部分は今から約3500年前に、そして最も新しい部分は約1900年前に書かれましたので、「過去の書物」です。

しかし、聖書は「過去の書物」であるだけでなく、「将来について書かれた書物」でもあります。『ヨハネの黙示録』は次のような言葉から始まっています。

イエス・キリストの黙示。この黙示は、すぐにも起こるはずのことを、神がその僕たちに示すためキリストにお与えになり、そして、キリストがその天使を送って僕ヨハネにお伝えになったものである。ヨハネは、神の言葉とイエス・キリストの証し、すなわち、自分の見たすべてのことを証しした。この預言の言葉を朗読する人と、これを聞いて、中に記されたことを守る人たちとは幸いである。時が迫っているからである。

聖書には、「これから起きること」「すぐにも起こるはずのこと」が書かれています。それは単なる神話や過去の出来事の記録ではありません。聖書は、私たち人間がどこからきて、どこへ向かおうとしているのかを明らかにするために神様が与えてくださったものです。

私が現在取り組んでいるささやかなチャレンジの一つは、この『ヨハネの黙示録』1章を、英語で暗唱するということです。そしてただ言葉を覚えるだけでなく、そこに書かれていることを理解し、それに従って生きる者になりたいと願っています。「この預言の言葉を朗読する人と、これを聞いて中に記されたことを守る人たちとは幸いである。時が迫っているからである。」（3節）と書かれているからです。

“Because the time is near”

Sometimes it is said that “the Bible is a past book.” Certainly, the Bible is a book written over 1600 years ago. However, the Bible is not only “past books” but also “books written about the future”.

In the Revelation, it is written as follows.

The revelation from Jesus Christ, which God gave him to show his servants what must soon take place. He made it known by sending his angel to his servant John, who testifies to everything he saw—that is, the word of God and the testimony of Jesus Christ. Blessed is the one who reads aloud the words of this prophecy, and blessed are those who hear it and take to heart what is written in it, because the time is near.

(Revelation 1:1-3 NIV)

The Bible tells us, “What will happen from now” and  ” What should happen soon “.  It is not just a myth, or a record of past events. The Bible is what God gave us to clarify where we are coming from and where we are going.

This is one I am challenging. I try to memorize chapter 1 of “Revelation” in English. And I just want to not only memorize words but also understand what is written there, and I want to become a person living accordingly.

Because it is written.

“Blessed is the one who reads aloud the words of this prophecy, and blessed are those who hear it and take to heart what is written in it, because the time is near.”(Revelation 1:3)

7月は、自転車好きにはたまらない季節です。世界最大の自転車レース、ツール・ド・フランスが開催されているからです。

自転車レースでは、チームのエースを勝たせるために一緒に走るメンバーは自分を犠牲にしてエースを支えます。エースの前を走って風よけになったり、チームカーから水や補給食を運んだりします。誰かの後ろについて走ることで、空気抵抗を約25％減らすことが出来ると言われています。

レースで優勝した選手たちは口を揃えて言います。「自分一人では勝てない。この勝利はチームみんなのものだ。」

「一人では勝てない」「誰かのサポートがあってこそ、ゴールにたどり着ける」―――これは自転車レースだけに限らない人生の真実です。私はかつて、心が挫け、自分でも自分自身のことをほとんど諦めかけていたときに、温かく励まし支えてくれた人たちがいたことで再び立ち上がることが出来ました。

この度参加した英語の研修でも、祈り合い、励まし合うことが出来る仲間がいたことで、最後まで自分のベストを尽くすことが出来ました。神様は「人がひとりでいるのは良くない。彼のために、ふさわしい助け手を造ろう」（創世記2：18）と言ってアダムにエバをお与えになりました。どのような厳しい状況に置かれたとしても「一人ではない」ということは私たちにとって大きな支えです。

イエス様は弟子たちに約束して言われました。

「見よ、わたしは世の終りまで、いつもあなたがたと共にいるのである」。

私たちに必要な仲間を与えるだけでなく、自ら共にいてくださる神様を心から讃美します。

“I can not win alone.”

I like bicycles. I like not only riding a bicycle, but also watching bicycle races. “Tour de France” which is the world’s largest bicycle race is being held right now.

In the race, the members work with the spirit of self-sacrifice to win the ace rider. They ride in front of the ace rider to against the wind. They carry water and food for the ace rider. Ace rider can reduce air resistance by 25% because of his teammate riding in front of him.

The rider who won the race says, “I can not win alone” “This victory is thanks to my teammate.”

“I can not win alone” “I can reach the goal thanks to my colleague’s support”—-This is the truth that applies not only to bicycle races but also to our life.

When I was frustrated and I almost gave up on myself, I was able to stand up with encouragement from my colleagues.

In the CLAP program, I had some friends to support me, so I was able to do my best.

God told Adam. And God gave him Eve.

The Lord God said, “It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make a helper suitable for him.”(Genesis2:18 NIV)

We are “not alone” That’s great news.

This is Jesus’ promise to us.

“And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”(Matthew28:20 NIV)

God gives us friends. And God himself be with us. Praise the Lord!

タイでの研修を終え、無事に帰宅することが出来ました。長いようであっという間の17日間でした。今回の研修では、毎日1時間「Tutor Time」という時間がありました。これは一対一で、英語の先生や英語が上手な現地の学生と英会話をする時間です。初めは緊張しましたが、やがて慣れてくると毎日この時間が楽しみになっていきました。

2週目のこの時間に、イギリス人の先生と会話をしました。色々なことが話題になりましたが、二日目のこの時間、私は自分が心の中に抱えていた苦しみについて話をしました。先生は私のその話にじっと耳を傾けて聞いてくださいました。その会話の途中から、私は話を続けることが出来なくなってしまいました。自分でも驚くほど涙がこみ上げてきたのです。「自分の話に深く共感しながら誠実に耳を傾けてくれる人がいる」という事実に、私は深く心を揺さぶられました。

このとき私の心に思い出された聖書の言葉です。

わたしの愛する兄弟たち、よくわきまえていなさい。だれでも、聞くのに早く、話すのに遅く、また怒るのに遅いようにしなさい。

神様は私たち人間を、一つの口と二つの耳を持つ存在として作られました。それは、「何か語ることも大切だが、人の話を心を込めて聞くことを大切にしなさい」という神様からのメッセージなのかもしれません。この日私は、自分も誰かの話に心から耳を傾けられる人になりたいと強く思いました。

“Should be quick to listen”

I participated the program CLAP that is for Pastors and Church Leaders. This is a program to improve participant’s English and leadership. This session took place at the APIU in Thailand from June 25 to July 13.

“Tutor time” was set every day for participants. It was very helpful time for us. We enjoyed the conversation and received many benefits.

My tutor at one day was a British teacher. Beginning, we enjoyed daily conversation. After a while, I opened my heart to him and talked about the suffering that I had. He listened to my talk sincerely. He listened to my story with deep empathy. I suddenly could not keep on talking. I could not suppress my tears. I was greatly moved by his sincerity. I was taught him the importance of “listening to people’s story” that day.

I remembered the Scripture.

My dear brothers and sisters, take note of this: Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry,

James 1:19 NIV

God gave us two ears and a mouth. It may be a message from God that “please listen more than speak”.

I want to become a person who listens to someone in good faith. That day, as he did to me.
