自宅のキッチンで使われている包丁を研ぐのですが、なかなか切れ味が良くなりません。自分の腕の悪さを棚に上げて、インターネット上で評判の良い砥石を購入しました。品物が届いて早速包丁を研ぎましたが…切れ味は鈍いままです。何とかして腕を上げなければいけません。しかし焦って力ずくで研いでも、包丁はさらに切れなくなってしまいます。包丁研ぎは熟練の技が求められる作業です。

ある信仰者が言いました。

「神様は試練を通して私を研がれます。神様の砥石で研がれるとき、私は痛くて涙が出ます。しかしそれによって私は成長させられることを知っています。」

すごい言葉だな、と思います。自分は試練の中にあるとき、このように言うことが出来るだろうか…？正直言って私は自信がありません。しかし、神様が私を研いでくださる研ぎ師であるならば、私は生まれ変わることが出来るはずです。包丁を研いでいると、砥石も包丁も少しずつすり減っていきます。砥石は自分自身の身を削りながら包丁の刃を整えていくのです。イエス様はご自身の命を削りながら私たちを愛してくださいました。

「わが子よ、主の鍛錬を軽んじてはいけない。主から懲らしめられても、力を落としてはいけない。なぜなら、主は愛する者を鍛え、子として受け入れる者を皆、鞭打たれるからである。」

（新約聖書　ヘブライ人への手紙12：6　新共同訳）

苦しみの中にある人に安易な気休めの言葉はかけられません。しかし、もしもその苦しみに意味と目的があり、それが「主の鍛錬」であるならば、そこには希望があるはずです。神様の砥石で磨きあげられたあなたが、いつの日か素晴らしい切れ味を発揮する日が必ず来ると信じています。

The Lord’s discipline

I sharpen my kitchen knife every week. However, the kitchen knife is dull. I have to sharpen it more skillfully. I bought a new whetstone. It was highly appreciated on the internet. I thought that I could sharpen my kitchen knife with it. On the day the whetstone arrived, I sharpened the kitchen knife with that whetstone. However, the kitchen knife still dull. It is difficult to sharpen knives. It requires high skills.

A Christian said, “God will sharpen me by hardships, then I feel very painful, but I know that God will grow me by hardships.”

I think it is a difficult word to say. I may can not say such a thing when it is a hardship. But if God sharpens me, I will be able to be reborn. When I sharpen a kitchen knife with a whetstone, not only kitchen knife but also grindstone wears. The whetstone wear out itself to sharpen the knives. Just like that, Christ loved us, hurting himself.

“My son, do not make light of the Lord’s discipline,
and do not lose heart when he rebukes you,
because the Lord disciplines the one he loves,
and he chastens everyone he accepts as his son.”(Hebrews 12:5,6 NIV)

It’s difficult to tell the words of comfort to those who are suffering in the hardships. However, if it is “Lord’s discipline”, there should be hope there. I believe that you will be used by God someday if it was sharpened by the whetstone of God.

私たちはどのようなときに神様に祈り、呼びかけるでしょうか。祈りが聞かれたとき、感謝することがあったとき、あるいは苦しみ、悲しみ、悩みの中から…私たちは人生の色々な場面で神様に呼ばわります。

セツにもまた男の子が生れた。彼はその名をエノスと名づけた。この時、人々は主の名を呼び始めた。

創世記4章は、読んでいて胸が痛くなる章です。アダムとエバの間に生まれた2人の男の子は成長し、兄カインは農夫に、弟アベルは羊飼いになりました。彼らはそれぞれ神様に献げ物をしましたが、神様はアベルの献げ物に目を留め、カインの献げ物には目を留められませんでした。カインはアベルを憎み、彼を殺しました。人類最初の殺人事件は、アダムとエバの家庭の中で起きました。4章の後半は、アダムの子孫たちのその後の記録です。兄が弟を殺してしまったアダムの家庭でしたが、その後さらに一人の男の子セツが与えられました。この章の最後の節に「この時、人々は主の名を呼び始めた」（26節）と書かれています。

アダムとエバの人生がそうであったように、私たちに人生にも喜びや悲しみがあります。しかしそれらの出来事の中から「主の名を呼び始める」ことのできる人は幸いです。心の底から神様に呼びかける人に対して、次の約束の言葉が与えられています。

その時、あなたがたはわたしに呼ばわり、来て、わたしに祈る。わたしはあなたがたの祈を聞く。あなたがたはわたしを尋ね求めて、わたしに会う。もしあなたがたが一心にわたしを尋ね求めるならば、わたしはあなたがたに会うと主は言われる。

When do you call God?

When my prayers have been answered. When I appreciate to God. Or when I suffer. When I struggle. … I will call upon God.

Seth also had a son, and he named him Enosh.　At that time people began to call on the name of the Lord.(Genesis 4:26 NIV)

Genesis 4 was written about sad incident. Between the Adam and Eve, the two boys born grew up. Cain has become a farmer. And Abel became a shepherd. They brought offering to God each of them. God looked with favor on Abel and his offering, but on Cain and his offering he did not look with favor. Cain hated Abel and killed him. In this way the first murder case of mankind occurred. It happened in the family of Adam. After that, another boy was born to Adam and Eve. At the end of this chapter is written “At that time people began to call on the name of the Lord.”

There is joy and sorrow in our life. Like Adam and Eve did. However, then, those who began to call on the name of the Lord are blessed. This is a promise given to those who call God.

Then you will call on me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart. I will be found by you,” declares the Lord, (Jeremiah 29:12-14 NIV)

8月29日午前6時ごろ、北朝鮮が発射したミサイルは北海道襟裳岬上空を通過して太平洋に落下しました。すぐさまJアラート（全国瞬時警告システム）により、対象地域に警報が出され、朝一番のニュースに日本中が衝撃を受けました。その後もTVやインターネットのニュースなどで北朝鮮情勢に関する報道が繰り返されています。

「一石を投ずる」という言葉があります。これは「（石を水に投ずると波紋が広がることから）問題を投げかける」（『広辞苑』より）という意味の言葉です。確かに、北朝鮮から発射されたミサイルは、平和な私たちの生活に投げ込まれた大きな「一石」のように様々な波紋を呼んでいます。

イエス様は終末の徴について言われました。「戦争の騒ぎや戦争のうわさを聞くだろうが、慌てないように気をつけなさい。そういうことは起こるに決まっているが、まだ世の終わりではない」（マタイ24：6　新共同訳）。

また、ダニエルはネブカドネツァル王の夢を説き明かしの中で、人類の文明と王国の歴史を象徴する巨大な像を足元から粉々に破壊するのは「人手によらず切りだされた石」（ダニエル書2：45　新共同訳）であると預言しました。この預言の言葉は、人間が作り出したものはいつか崩れ去るが、その後に神様が支配される永遠の王国が必ずやって来るという約束です。

私たちは今、先を予測することが難しい未曾有の時代に生かされています。消えてなくなってしまうものにではなく、いつまでも決して変わることのない確かなものを土台として生きていきたいものです。

Cast a stone (Cause a stir)

The missile launched by North Korea on August 29 morning passed over Japan and fell into the Pacific Ocean. The Japanese government issued a warning to the target area through “J-alert”. People all over Japan was surprised by this incident. Even now various news about it is reported.

There is a word “cast a stone”(Cause a stir) in Japan.

This means that it cause a stir. That missile launched on that day has an effect on our lives like “a stone thrown”.

Jesus said about the signs of the end of the world.

You will hear of wars and rumors of wars, but see to it that you are not alarmed. Such things must happen, but the end is still to come. (Matthew 24:6 NIV)

Daniel explained the king’s dream. Among them, He mentioned about the rock that destroyed the huge statue symbolizing human kingdom and history.

This is the meaning of the vision of the rock cut out of a mountain, but not by human hands—a rock that broke the iron, the bronze, the clay, the silver and the gold to pieces.(Daniel 2:45 NIV)

The words of this prophecy tells us that objects made by humans will someday break. However, it promises us that the kingdom ruled by God will last forever.

We can not predict the future. We are living in a difficult time. That is why we need to live based on what is permanent. It is not a temporary thing made by humans.

先日、実家に帰ったときに父がこんな話をしてくれました。「教会でみんなの前でお話し（聖書研究ガイドの司会）をするために原稿も準備して行ったんだけど、いざ皆さんの前に立ったら、頭が真っ白になってしまって何を話したらいいのか分からなくなって本当に困った…。」

父のその話を聞きながら、他人事には思えませんでした。私も時々このような夢を見ます。皆さんの前に立って話しをしようとしたとき、手元を見ると用意していたはずの原稿がない！冷や汗がダラダラと流れ、胃がキリキリと痛み始めた…ところで目が覚めるのです。

「語るべきときに、語るメッセージがない」というのは本当に苦しいことです。しかし、聖書にはこのように書かれています。

人の口からは、心にあふれていることが出て来るのである。善い人は、良いものを入れた倉から良いものを取り出し、悪い人は、悪いものを入れた倉から悪いものを取り出してくる。

自分が何かいいことを話そう、と思っていると話すことが苦しくなってきます。しかし、私の心に神様の言葉と、その言葉から与えられた感動が満ちているなら、私の口からは自然にそれらのものがあふれでてくることでしょう。考えるべきは「何を話そうか？」ではなく「私の心は何であふれているのか？」なのかもしれません。私は次の聖句をいつも覚えていたいと思います。

良い贈り物、完全な賜物はみな、上から、光の源である御父から来るのです。御父には、移り変わりも、天体の動きにつれて生ずる陰もありません。

（ヤコブの手紙1：17）

Mouth speaks what the heart is full of

My father told me. “I taught the Bible in the church, I prepared a manuscript for that, but when I stood in front of the congregation, I did not know what to tell me that day, I was very I was in trouble. ”

When I heard that, I felt much sympathy. I often had such a dream. One day, I tried to preach at the church. I looked for the manuscript, but I can not find it. I tried to say something, but I can not tell them anything. Sweat flowed, my stomach hurts. … I woke up there. That was a bad dream.

It is painful that there is no word to talk about.

Jesus said,

For the mouth speaks what the heart is full of.  A good man brings good things out of the good stored up in him, and an evil man brings evil things out of the evil stored up in him. (Matthew 12:34,35 NIV)

When I try to talk something nice, it makes it hard to talk. But if my heart is filled with the word of God and the joy that comes from it, they will come out naturally from my mouth. What I should pay attention is not “What to talk about” but “What is my heart full of?”

I always want to remember this Scripture.

 Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows.(James 1:17 NIV)

英語で黙示録1章を暗唱してみよう！と思い立ち、それにチャレンジしています。黙示録1章は20節まであります。一気に全部は覚えられませんので、数節ずつ区切ってカードに書き写し、それを持ち歩くようにしています。毎朝のジョギングのときにこのカードを何度も読み返しながら暗唱しています（はたから見たらかなり怪しい人に見えると思います！）。

このチャレンジを始めたのにはきっかけがありました。ある教会員の方から、過去5年分の安息日学校聖書研究ガイドの暗唱聖句を暗記し続けている、という話を聞きました。これは想像も出来ないくらいすごいチャレンジです！自分はこの真似は出来ないけど、せめて黙示録1章の暗唱にチャレンジしてみよう！そんな気持ちにさせられました。

それゆえ、これらのわたしの言葉を心と魂におさめ、またそれを手につけて、しるしとし、目の間に置いて覚えとし、これを子供たちに教え、家に座している時も、道を歩く時も、寝る時も、起きる時も、それについて語り、また家の入口の柱と、門にそれを書きしるさなければならない。

大切なことを覚えるというのは、単に頭に記憶させるのではなく、身体全体に染み込ませるような

ものです。何度も何度も繰り返している内に、身体が覚えていくのです。先の聖句は、神様の言葉をいつも持ち歩き、それを自分自身のものにしていくことの大切さを私たちに教えています。そし

て、自分の身体に染み込んだものこそが、周りの人たちや次の世代の人たちに伝わっていくのかもしれません。

Fix these words

I am challenging the memorization of Revelation chapter 1. It’s so long that I can not memorize it at once. I write it on the card and I carry it around. I am taking it for jogging in the morning. I memorize it while running. Perhaps the person who saw me may wonder.

This is the reason I started this challenge. One church member memorized the memory verse of the Sabbath school every year. She continued it for five years. She can recite the five-year of Scripture. That is a great challenge! I can not do it. However, I was inspired by her. I decided to memorize Revelation Chapter 1.

The Bible said,

¹⁸ Fix these words of mine in your hearts and minds; tie them as symbols on your hands and bind them on your foreheads.¹⁹ Teach them to your children, talking about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up. ²⁰ Write them on the doorframes of your houses and on your gates,²¹ so that your days and the days of your children may be many in the land the Lord swore to give your ancestors, as many as the days that the heavens are above the earth.

(Deuteronomy 11:18-21 NIV)

“Fix” does not mean just copying information to the brain. It is called “muscle memory”. As we repeat learning many times, the muscles memory it. The Scripture mentioned above is taught to us. The things that we memorized deeply will be conveyed to people around us.
